THROOP — Eight people were displaced after a fire heavily damaged the second floor of an apartment building in the borough early Sunday morning, Throop Fire Chief Alec Shattin said.
Crews were dispatched to 119 Boulevard Ave. around 2:40 a.m. for the report of a dryer fire, which was quickly upgraded to a working fire, Shattin said. Firefighters remained on scene for about three hours.
Throop police arrived on scene first and safely evacuated the occupants, Shattin said.
A Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal ruled the cause of the fire as accidental, Shattin said.
Upon arrival, fire crews discovered heavy smoke and flames coming from the windows on the second floor in the rear of the building, Shattin said.
In addition to Throop, crews from Dickson City, Dunmore, Blakely, Peckville, Eynon, Olyphant and Pennsylvania Ambulance also responded to the scene.
