CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Cleveland fire crews rescued two people aboard a kayak Sunday.
The Cleveland Division of Fire said its crews responded to a report of a kayaker in distress off the coast of Lake Erie in the 15400 block of Lakeshore Boulevard at 5:20 p.m.
When crews arrived at the scene, a rescue swimmer and a diver were deployed.
Fire crews said they located two people who were on one kayak when breaking waves struck.
Crews cited Marine 21, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources as assisting at the scene.
The two people rescued received evaluations from Cleveland EMS on the scene and declined further medical treatment.
The Cleveland Division of Fire said at the time of the rescue, waves were reported to be between 3 and 5 feet, which created hazardous conditions along the shoreline.
