After seven seasons leading the Erie High School varsity girls’ basketball program, head coach Lance Brown has announced his resignation from the position.
Brown submitted his resignation this week, bringing to a close a successful seven-year tenure at the head of the Lady Royals. While he is stepping away from the varsity role, Brown will remain with Erie’s Public Schools and continue coaching as the head coach of middle school girls’ basketball.
In a statement announcing his decision, Brown reflected on his time with the program and expressed confidence in its future.
“After seven incredible years as the Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Erie High School, I have made the difficult decision to step down from my position,” Brown said. “This was not an easy choice, but I believe the program is ready for a different voice and someone new to take it to the next level. I am proud of everything that we have built together and grateful for the opportunity to lead this program. I am also grateful to be part of so many student-athletes’ lives over the past seven years.”
Brown also took time to thank those who supported him throughout his coaching journey, including his family, fellow coaches, school staff, administrators, and students.
Most notably, he expressed appreciation for the players who helped shape the program during his tenure.
“I want to sincerely thank every player I have had the privilege to coach during our time here,” Brown said. “Your hard work, dedication, resilience, and commitment to the program have meant more to me than words can express.”
Brown’s departure marks the end of an era for Erie High School girls’ basketball. His leadership helped guide the program through seven seasons while fostering growth both on and off the court. As the search begins for a new varsity head coach, Brown will continue mentoring young athletes at the middle school level and remain an important part of the district’s basketball community.
