Five people were transported to UPMC Hamot following a late-night fire on Ash Street near East Seventh Street on July 30, according to Erie Fire Marshal Donald Sauer.
On August 3 authorities have released a new update on the victims injured in the recent Ash Street fire, including encouraging news about a young child who was among those transported for treatment.
According to officials, four people were flown to Pittsburgh following the fire. Three of the victims were taken to Mercy Hospital, while a five-year-old child was transported to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
The child is reportedly showing signs of improvement and is expected to be released from the hospital early this week possibly August 3.
At this time, no updated condition information has been released on the three individuals being treated at Mercy Hospital. According to Don Sauer he will be contacting the hospital for additional details and clarification regarding the patients’ conditions.
Several other victims were treated locally at UPMC facilities following the fire. Their conditions have not been released.
Investigators continue to examine the scene, but the extensive damage caused by the blaze has made it difficult for authorities to determine an exact cause.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to gather more information about the incident and the condition of those affected.
