An EQT Corp. affiliate is asking a federal court to prevent the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office from moving forward with criminal charges over a gas leak while the company’s lawsuit proceeds.
The preliminary injunction is necessary because the charges would lead the company to suffer “potential criminal liability, economic hardship, a loss of business,” and other irreparable harms, Equitrans LP said in its motion filed Monday with the US District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
“It is irrefutable that a potential criminal conviction constitutes irreparable harm,” the motion said.
