BERKS COUNTY, Pa. – In just a few short weeks, kids will be heading back to school. That means it’s time for parents to start thinking about school supplies.
Several back-to-school collection drives are happening in Berks County right now.
“We’re really just looking for any school supplies; everything from backpacks and lunch boxes to pencils, erasers, pens, any art supplies,” says Angela Cremer, VP of Marketing and Communications for Fleetwood Bank.
She says the bank has participated in this community school supply collection event started by a stay-at-home mom for the last four years.
“Our vision is really to serve as a catalyst to help the community that we live and work in,” says Cremer. “This is a prime example of us being able to partner with local businesses, our employees and our customers and just make a difference so every kid in Berks County can start school with the supplies they need.”
They will be holding a back-to-school drive event at their Blandon location Tuesday followed by a distribution event the following weekend. Back To School Bash
Everlong Records in Hamburg is also collecting school supplies for children and they will distribute them August 15th and a back-to-school bash at the store. Any supplies left over will be donated to Hamburg schools.
In Reading, Elvin Morales and his co-organizer Annabelle Torres, are hosting a back-to-school supply event at Glenside Elementary for the first time.
“We’re trying to give out a minimum of 100 backpacks with supplies. We have a couple of raffles, just to be part of the community, to give back and have these students start the school year strong,” says Morales.
That event will be held Saturday, August 8th from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
“I want it to grow every single year,” says Morales. “Next year I want it to be bigger than this year and then years to come I want it to be an even bigger event.”
A number of other organizations and individuals are also holding school supply events.
