The person who died in a dirt road crash in Erie last week was identified as a Thornton woman.
Evamarie Woods, 54, died in the single-vehicle crash that happened around 12:36 p.m. July 30 on Weld County Road 10, according to Erie Police Department spokesperson Amber Luttrell. Officials are continuing to investigate what caused the crash, Luttrell wrote in a statement.
Police believed Woods’ red SUV was headed eastbound before crashing just west of the underpass for I-25, ahead of where the road changes from dirt to pavement. The SUV didn’t crash into anything but rolled over three times.
Weld County Road 10 was closed for hours between I-25 and Weld County Road 7 while officials responded.
No one else was in the SUV at the time, officials said.
Erie Police believe there hadn’t been a fatal crash on a dirt road in the town in at least 14 years until July 30, Luttrell said the day of the crash. Luttrell didn’t know the last time there was such a crash.
