BETHLEHEM, Pa. — If you’re walking around Musikfest, chances are you’ll see Bethlehem police on patrol.
You’ll also see several first aid tents. Officials say the event is a big public safety undertaking.
Across Musikfest, you’ll see lots of police keeping people safe.
City of Bethlehem police chief Michelle Kott tells us the festival is the largest public safety event for the city.
“Any given night, it depends on anticipated crowd sizes, the weather, Tuesday, for example, we had 70 officers out throughout the day at Musikfest, and that’s in addition to our patrol units and our other specialized units that are out providing services to the rest of the city,” Kott described.
While Musikfest is a massive undertaking, police say its also a great way for the community to connect with the department’s officers.
“We get to see people we haven’t seen all year, community members, the kids that come up to us and ask us for trading cards, so it’s just a great opportunity,” said Capt. William Audelo.
In addition to police on patrol, there’s also first responders with registered health professionals ready to go, treating minor injuries.
“We treat minor bruises, burns, minor burns, dehydration, if they need water, we give them some water,” said Christine Hubany, RN/BSN at LVHN, part of Jefferson Health.
And more serious conditions if needed.
“We have the AED devices, we can go give them the first take and then we call 911 as they need more help,” said Ranjodh Kaur, RN at LVHN.
Those tents are stationed across the festival to make sure everyone stays safe.
“Yeah, we’re in the Pavilion and Festplatz here all day, and then we’re also on the Southside and we’re in the Steel Stage down there,” said Donna Passno, per diem physical therapist at LVHN.
