Philadelphia has a vibrant and active small business scene, and with the city’s population roughly 38% Black, it’s no surprise Black-owned companies make a significant contribution to the local economy.
These businesses span across neighborhoods and industries, with founders pursuing their passions and serving their communities in a variety of ways. Some provide necessary physical infrastructure, some help others achieve their creative and professional visions, and some create fun and connective experiences, but they all have one thing in common: they’re building and thriving in Philly.
For a second year, Technical.ly is partnering with the city Department of Commerce to tell the stories of entrepreneurs from every corner of Philadelphia, with our ongoing article series showcasing these unique and varied companies that call Philadelphia home.
