ARCHBALD, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — The Valley View School District is asking residents to disregard recently mailed 2026 school tax bills after an error caused the original bills to overstate what property owners owe.
District Business Manager Corey Castellani told FOX56 the mistake occurred because of an issue with the software used to recalculate the district’s millage rate following Lackawanna County’s countywide property reassessment.
As a result, the tax bills that were initially mailed reflected the district’s previous millage rate of 10.75 mills instead of the newly approved rate of 9.7 mills.
The corrected rate means homeowners will pay less in school taxes than what appeared on the original bills.
Castellani said new tax bills were mailed Thursday and residents should receive them this weekend or early next week.
Until then, the district is asking taxpayers not to submit payment using the original bills.
In a notice to residents, district officials apologized for the confusion and inconvenience, saying they are working to ensure every taxpayer receives an accurate bill.
