Memorial for fallen Pennsylvania firefighters breaks ground in Somerset County
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. —
Groundbreaking began Thursday in Somerset County for a memorial honoring firefighters who died in the line of duty across Pennsylvania.
The Fallen Firefighter Memorial will pay tribute to the courage, commitment, and selflessness of these heroes, showcasing their names at the “Remember Me Garden” near the Flight 93 Memorial.
“Every day they run into burning buildings and other catastrophes, putting their lives on the line to save other people. And to save other people’s property. And in the process, often, way too often, they fall victim to the fire themselves. So they choose to sacrifice as well,” Bill Cenk, president of Remember Me Rose Garden, said.
Construction will soon begin on the addition to the garden, which is open 365 days a year from dawn to dusk.
