Pennsylvania museum houses fossils of newly identified dinosaur species
HARRISBURG, Pa. —
The State Museum of Pennsylvania, which recently closed for renovations, has been housing fossils of a newly identified dinosaur species.
Researchers in New Mexico have identified the fossils as belonging to a two-legged, bird-like dinosaur species that roamed the Earth 70 million years ago.
The dinosaur, named “Dinevenator,” measured eight to ten feet in length, weighed up to 300 pounds, and had a larger brain than most other dinosaurs.
Paleontologists discovered the bones 20 years ago and sent them to Harrisburg, but it took until now for scientists to realize what they actually were.
There are plans to transfer the fossilized bones back to the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science in Albuquerque.
