An 18-year-old woman and a 13-year-old juvenile were killed and a 12-year-old girl was seriously hurt in a one-vehicle UTV accident in Susquehanna County on Wednesday afternoon, according to state police at Gibson.
The accident happened at about 2:50 p.m. on Butterfield Road in New Milford Twp., police said in a news release. A 2025 Can Am Defender UTV, traveling north, traveled across the south travel lane onto the gravel berm and struck a tree, police said.
The driver, Taryn M. Briggs, 18, of New Milford, was ejected from the vehicle, as was one of the two passengers, a 13-year-old from Springville.
Briggs was transported to Endless Mountains Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. The 13-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, about 500 feet north of Conklin Road.
A second passenger, a 12-year-old girl from Springville, was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital, in Johnson City, New York, for treatment of serious injuries, police said.
The news release did not list the names of the juveniles.
State police, New Milford Fire and EMS, Barnes Kasson EMS and the Susquehanna County Coroner’s Office responded.
