Evelyn ‘Evie’ A. Phillips Rodgers
OBITUARY
Evelyn Evie Rodgers, 94, a resident of Scranton, passed away peacefully on August 2 at Marywood Heights, where she had resided for the past 20 months. Born in Scranton, Evie was the daughter of the late LeRoy W. and Hilda Needham Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Rodgers; her brother, Leroy Phillips; and her five sisters, Arlene Patricia Phillips, Hilda Clair Phillips, and Clair Catherine Phillips, Lillian Eiden, Dorothy Whalen. Surviving are her nieces and nephews, a stepson, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Evie was a member of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, and a former member of Saint Mary of the Assumption Church until its closing. She was a 1949 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. She was employed by Consolidated Molded Products in Scranton until its closing and later worked as a ward clerk at Mercy Hospital until her retirement.
Evie enjoyed playing the piano, singing, bowling, swimming, and taking trips to the casinos with her husband, Mike. They were both avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fans.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Marywood Heights, Hospice of the Sacred Heart, and her companion care provider for their extraordinary care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 6, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 1217 Prospect Avenue, Scranton, to be celebrated by Father Jonathan Kuhar, pastor. Interment will follow at Saint Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call Thursday morning at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
