The Erie Community Blood Bank is turning up the volume on blood donation awareness with the return of its second annual “Bloodstock” event.
The daylong community celebration is being held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Community Blood Bank parking lot at 2646 Peach Street, combining live entertainment, food, games and blood donation opportunities in an effort to help maintain the region’s blood supply.
Bloodstock features a full lineup of free live music throughout the day, along with food trucks, giveaways and family-friendly activities. Organizers hope the festival atmosphere will encourage both new and returning donors to roll up their sleeves and give blood.
Among the performers taking the stage is a local musician scheduled to play on stage beginning at 9:30 a.m., helping to kick off a day centered on community involvement and lifesaving donations.
Health leaders say events like Bloodstock are critical because hospitals rely on a steady supply of donated blood to treat patients facing emergencies, surgeries, cancer treatments and other medical needs. With blood products in constant demand, maintaining an adequate supply depends on regular donations from community members.
Organizers say the goal of Bloodstock is not only to provide a fun day of music and entertainment, but also to raise awareness about the ongoing need for blood donors and encourage people to make a potentially lifesaving contribution.
