The whereabouts of a convicted criminal remain unknown after he was mistakenly released from jail just weeks after being sentenced.
His release has raised questions among those impacted by his crimes, as authorities work to determine how he was mistakenly released and where he is now.
In a statement, the Erie County Prison says it became aware on August 1 that Dylan Anthony Bera had been mistakenly released from custody.
“On August 1, 2026, Erie County Prison Administration became aware of a report stating that Dylan A. Bera, 39, had been mistakenly released from custody.
A prompt review confirmed that Mr. Bera was properly committed on July 5, 2026, under Erie County charges and was released on July 30, 2026, pursuant to a valid court order from Judge Alison M. Scarpitti. At the time of release, no outstanding warrants or detainers were recorded in any jurisdiction.
Although Mr. Bera appeared for a video court session on July 14, the Erie County Prison had no record to continue to hold Mr. Bera.
