Philly’s most artful night out is back.
This Friday, Nov. 7, the Barnes Foundation turns up the volume for ‘First Friday: AAPI Jazz Collective & PAAFF,’ an evening where fine art meets live jazz, indie film, and mixed cocktails.
From 6 to 9 p.m., guests can wander through the galleries, sip and snack, and soak up sounds from the AAPI Jazz Collective (an ensemble of established AAPI-identifying jazz musicians and artists) before settling in for ‘Pooja, Sir,’ a gripping festival film inspired by true events in southern Nepal.
The screening is part of the Philadelphia Asian American Film Foundation’s annual festival and was inspired by real events during the 2015 race protests in southern Nepal. Directed by Deepak Rauniyar, the plot of the film follows two boys who are kidnapped in a Nepal border town. A Detective Inspector is sent from Kathmandu to solve the case, forcing her to leave her wife and her ailing father behind.
Tickets for First Friday are $35, but discounts are available for students and members (supporters and sustainers receive free access).
If you can’t make it out this Friday, the Barnes Foundation is also hosting a  feature-length film screening on Nov. 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. of  ‘The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou’,  directed by Wes Anderson. The three-part film series is presented in conjunction with The Barnes’ latest exhibition, ‘Henri Rousseau: A Painter’s Secrets.’ Tickets run for $15 (students and members can get in for free).Â
The Barnes Foundation is located at 2025 Benjamin Franklin Parkway. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit barnesfoundation.org
