The African Heritage Festival in Lackawanna County celebrated diversity and featured an African traditional attire competition and other special performances.
SCRANTON, Pa. — The 5th annual African Heritage Festival took place Sunday in Lackawanna County.
The cultural event along Jackson Street in Scranton featured vendors, food trucks, an art gallery, and special performances.
An opening ceremony kicked off the celebration, where an Emcee welcomed guests and acknowledged elected officials.
Organizers say today’s festival is not only a good time, but also highlights the importance of diversity and culture in Scranton.
“This area is a place that is undeserved. It’s usually undeserved. When it comes to different cultures and diversity, it feels great that we can see the African Culture and African Diaspora be embraced,” said Alahji Daquan Robinson, African American Heritage Festival Emcee.
Some other festivities at today’s event included an African traditional attire competition and other traditional performances.
