A 20‑year‑old Montgomery County man was jailed on assault charges after state police said he pulled another driver from his car following a weekend crash in Berks County and beat him, causing multiple injuries.
Vincenzo G. Massi of Green Lane was committed to Berks County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail following his arraignment Sunday night before District Judge Ann L. Young in Reading Central Court.
State police in Reading charged Massi with aggravated and simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.
According to investigators:
Troopers were dispatched to Hoffmansville Road near Pasmore Road in Washington Township around 2:30 p.m. Sunday for a report of a two‑vehicle crash. The caller reported an altercation between the drivers.
The first trooper to arrive found one driver inside an ambulance being treated by medics. The man told police that he had been rear‑ended by Massi. After the crash, he said, Massi pulled him from his vehicle, put him in a headlock and punched him in the face several times.
The affidavit did not indicate whether the drivers had any interaction before the collision.
Emergency medical personnel told the trooper that the victim suffered extensive injuries to his face and body. The trooper noted a crooked, bruised and bloody nose; bruising around both eyes; and bulging in the area of his ribs.
The man was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital for further treatment.
Massi was taken into custody at the scene.
