CUMRU TWP., Pa. – Tom Schaeffer’s Camping and Travel Center is sponsoring adoptions at the Animal Rescue League of Berks County (ARL) in a weekend-long event.
The event will run from Friday, August 14, to Sunday, August 16, in memory of Tom Schaeffer.
During the event, all pets over six months of age will be free to adopt, the ARL says.
The ARL shared advice for potential adopters, saying they should be prepared to complete an adoption profile and meet with a counselor to ensure that the pet they select is a good match for their home, family, and lifestyle.
The organization encourages adopters to bring their family members to meet their new pet at the time of adoption.
Dog adopters should bring their resident dogs to ensure a good match and be prepared to pay $11.30 for a dog license, which is required at the time of adoption under PA law.
Adopters should also bring a dog collar and leash, or they can purchase one from the ARL on-site.
Cat adopters should bring a cat carrier, or they can purchase one from the ARL for $5.
The ARL’s hours for the event are listed below:
No appointments are necessary, but a virtual waitlist has been set up on the ARL website.
The organization says all guests will be able to check their place in line and be notified when it’s their turn to work with an adoption counselor. Extended wait times during sponsored adoption events are expected.
