WILKES-BARRE TWP. — After opening the season with seven straight wins, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins find themselves in a losing skid.
Travis Boyd scored four minutes into overtime as Toronto netted four straight goals in a 4-3 win over the Pens on Wednesday night at Mohegan Arena.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton lost three of its last four games heading into the weekend, but remain on top of the Atlantic Division by one point over Providence.
The locals couldn’t have asked for a better start. Tristian Broz’s fifth goal of the year gave WBS a 1-0 lead at the first intermission, and back-to-back scores by Atley Calvert and Bokondji Imama gave the Pens a three-goal lead after two.
But the Marlies scored three times in the third period to knot it up at 3, and Boyd’s goal at the 4:18 mark of overtime sealed the victory.
Filip Larsson got the start in goal, and stopped 19 of the 23 shots.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has two games this weekend, traveling to Rochester on Friday and hosting Utica on Saturday. It’s the first meeting with Rochester this season, while the Pens are 0-1 against the Comets.
