SCRANTON, Pa. — The RailRiders have been known by different names throughout their time in the area.
They’ve been known as the Red Barons when they started in 1986, then the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees, and then the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. The team said yet another name will be on the jersey as they get ready for a new inning in baseball history.

“We’re still here. We’re still playing baseball. We’re still a Yankees affiliate,” said Adam Marco, Director of Communications. “This team is not going anywhere; it’s just time for the new identity, the next chapter.”
The inside of the stadium will change as well, getting rid of the theme.
“While I can’t tell you what it is, it really pays homage to N.E.P.A., to this area, keeping in mind what we love to do, who we are, what this area has been about for decades and centuries, and it will be a fun new brand that I think we hope that everyone can enjoy and embrace,” Marco said.
The team said they are planning an event for early November when they will release the new name.
