This week’s 8 Great Tuesdays concert was about more than live music, bringing local nonprofits and community organizations together at the Rebich Investments Amphitheater.

“We try to emulate as much of Fleetwood Mac’s live performances as we can,” said Christian of Songbirds: A Fleetwood Mac Tribute. “There’s a lot of crazy energy that a lot of people might not have known about if you haven’t seen Fleetwood Mac live.”

Before Songbirds: A Fleetwood Mac Tribute took the stage, the YMCA of Greater Erie, the featured nonprofit of the night, helped get the crowd moving with an instructor-led performance.

The organization is preparing to open fall registration for a variety of programs, including youth sports, STEM, and creative arts. Programs are available for people of all ages, from infants to older adults.

“We are just about to start our fall registration for all the programs that we have in the fall,” said Deanna Renaud, vice president of marketing and development for the YMCA of Greater Erie.

Last year, the YMCA provided $300,000 in financial assistance to families in need. That support includes help with memberships and early learning programs.

“Everything from membership help to early learning support for families, there are so many people looking for that social connection and that place to belong,” Renaud said. “Today is the day that really helps us be able to support those needs and those requests.”

The YMCA has served communities for 175 years, offering programs designed to support families and individuals throughout every stage of life.

“Anytime you have the opportunity to give to the Y, you’re giving to the families, and giving to a community cause,” said Curtis Jones, program coordinator with the YMCA of Greater Erie.

Jones also helped bring some extra energy to Tuesday’s concert, leading the crowd in a dance performance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” before the headliner took the stage.

“When they asked me to do something to kind of get the crowd hyped up, I thought, ‘You know what? What better way to enjoy some music than to dance to some music?’” Jones said.
