HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A Pennsylvania lawmaker is proposing a potential solution to help save teen’s lives.

Rep. David Delloso (D-Delaware) plans to introduce a bill to require middle school and high schools to place the national, state, or local suicide prevention hotline number on student ID cards.

“Ensuring students have immediate access to crisis resources can help them seek and receive support when they need it most,” he wrote in a co-sponsorship memo. He noted that 20% of high school students in the United States seriously considered attempting suicide in the prior 12 months in a 2023 study. “By raising awareness and providing resources directly to students, we can better support their mental health and help prevent the worst from occurring.”

He said Michigan and New Hampshire had both passed similar legislation.
