Dauphin County rally pushes for skill games legislation ahead of ban deadline
HARRISBURG, Pa. —
A rally is being held Thursday night in Dauphin County as small business owners and advocates push for legislation to regulate skill games before a potential statewide ban.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has given state lawmakers until Oct. 13 to pass legislation regulating the machines, which are commonly found in bars and convenience stores. Without action, the machines could be banned under state law. The court has ruled that skill games are considered slot machines.
Supporters of the legislation are backing a bill that would impose a $500 monthly fee on each machine.
They say the measure could generate $300 million in state taxes within its first year.
The rally is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Progress Fire Company Home Association on Short Street in Susquehanna Township.
