SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Making a splash in Scranton, Capouse Avenue Park is now home to the city’s second splash pad and a brand-new playground, replacing the former Penn Ridge pool complex.
The roughly $1.8 million project is part of a broader effort that has brought nearly $26 million in park and recreation improvements to Scranton.
Starting construction on Capouse Avenue Park in late spring of last year, Romeo Orlik and Gail Duggan with Kolbalt Construction said the project was a rewarding opportunity to transform the area. The former Penn Ridge pool complex had fallen into disrepair, making the revitalization especially meaningful for the surrounding neighborhood.
Duggan said the new park is a welcome addition to the Pine Brook neighborhood and is excited to see residents enjoying the new amenities.
“It’s a great addition to the Pine Ridge neighborhood. And we were so pleased to work with CNA engineers and the funding that we got from the state and the city. They really worked super hard to make this beautiful for these beautiful children here in this area. And it’s going to definitely elevate the whole neighborhood,” said Duggan.
Erin Zablocki, Director of Revitalization with the United Neighborhood Centers of NEPA, said it was a pleasure working alongside the City of Scranton to bring the project to life. She said residents have been looking forward to the park’s completion.
“This is very exciting. A lot of residents have been asking about this, so we’re thrilled to start sharing the great news,” said Zablocki.
The ribbon cutting for Capouse Avenue Park brought together Mayor Paige Cognetti, City of Scranton officials, project partners, and members of the community to celebrate the park’s opening.
