READING, Pa. – At Baseballtown, it’s the Reading Phillies’ fifth annual recovery awareness night.
Thursday’s game is all about connecting people with resources and celebrating recovery here in Berks County.
16 organizations are setting up tables at FirstEnergy Stadium, sharing resources about prevention, education, and recovery.
“That’s what it’s about. About sharing and learning, but in a fun atmosphere, says Berks County Commissioner Michael Rivera
Rivera will be throwing the first pitch at Thursday’s game.
He says the goal of the event is to help get rid of stigma surrounding addiction.
“We want to let people know, hey, this can happen to anyone. You don’t have to be ashamed of it,” said Rivera.
Additionally, they want to show everyone that recovery is possible.
“There are people here that do live in recovery day after day, and they are able to do it. And if they are able to do it, you can do it as well. And the help is here,” said Rivera.
SOS Berks & Berks Counseling Center, a co-sponsor of the event, handed out five thousand free tickets.
“So hopefully we’ll have a lot of people there tonight,” said Rivera.
