A ribbon-cutting Thursday kicked off a new addition to the Pinebrook neighborhood.
With federal and state funding, the neighborhood has a new playground and splash pad.
“Our first thing was to fill in the pool, of course, and make it safe, but over these years we’ve been able to put together the state and federal funding to make this now a splash pad and a really, really great park,” said Mayor Paige Cognetti (D), Scranton.
With only four pools in the city, all far from Pinebrook, families are excited to be close to the park on Capouse Avenue.
“The whole time I’ve lived here, it’s been a grown-over lot, a grown-over pool, that was never maintained, so when they started renovating it, we’ve been watching the progress all summer, and waiting,” said Sheli Pratt-McHugh. “It’s been hot until October lately, so I’m hoping we can get a lot of use out of it.
The city said this is part of a revitalization project, costing about $1.8 million.
