SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Scranton park that sat empty for years is getting a second life. City leaders cut the ribbon Thursday on a new playground and splash pad at Capouse Avenue Park.

The $1.8 million project transformed the former Penn Ridge pool site into a modern space for families to cool off, play, and gather.

“This was an eye-sore previously. Before that, it was a beautiful pool, and now it’s back to being a beautiful part of this neighborhood and hopefully for many more years to come, the children will enjoy it,” Administrative Services Manager of Kobalt Construction Gail Duggan said.

Officials said it’s part of a larger effort to upgrade parks and recreational spaces across the city.
