Pennsylvania fire crew prepares to assist with Washington wildfires
A Pennsylvania wildland fire crew is preparing to assist in battling major wildfires in Washington state, where drought, extreme heat, and high winds have created dangerous conditions.
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced that the 24-member team, made up of foresters and equipment operators, will leave Friday morning. The crew will spend two weeks working on the fire lines, including removing fallen trees and assisting with other fire-suppression efforts.
State Forester Seth Cassell highlighted the team’s experience and adaptability.
“Our crews are adaptable and experienced, and we have all the confidence they’re going to be able to safely fight the fires and contribute to helping people,” Cassell said.
Each crew member is a certified wildland firefighter and will be equipped with high-performance, heat- and flame-resistant gear.
This assistance comes as Washington remains under a statewide wildfire emergency, with dangerous fire conditions fueled by drought, extreme heat, and high winds.
