PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WHTM) — A man was saved by rescue crews after falling down an elevator shaft inside an abandoned Pennsylvania building Wednesday afternoon.
He fell about eight to 12 feet down inside the abandoned building in the 900 block of River Avenue in Pittsburgh around 2:30, and there was no lighting or ventilation, a post describing the rescue by Pittsburgh Public Safety (PPS) Department reads.

Rescuers found him in the pit of the shaft and before anyone was sent inside the building, crews checked the air quality for any contaminants.
The post states, four medics were lowered into the shaft to rescue the man, who was awake, but his one leg was pinned.

Eventually, he was placed into a harness before being put on a long board to be hoisted out of the shaft. He was then taken to the hospital, where he was in stable condition, the post states. He did suffer multiple leg fractures.
The post did not mention why the man was in the abandoned building.
