Docs: Man admitted to using cocaine, alcohol before crash that killed Pennsylvania teacher, 1 other
WORTH TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
A teacher for a Western Pennsylvania school district and a man from Butler were both killed in a crash in Mercer County.
Sandra Marwick was one of two people killed in a crash involving three vehicles in Worth Township on Wednesday.
According to authorities, Aric Abrams of Clark Mills was heading north on Sandy Lake-Grove City Road when he drifted into the southbound lane and swiped Marwick’s vehicle.
After Abrams hit her, he lost control and hit a guide rail. Marwick also lost control and ended up in the northbound lane, where she hit a third vehicle head-on.
Both Marwick and the driver of the third vehicle, Luke Mulford of Butler, died on the scene.
Abrams was not injured.
Authorities say Abrams admitted to using cocaine two nights before the crash and alcohol the night before. He allegedly refused to take a blood test, telling officers there would be drugs in his system, his criminal complaint states.
Abrams is facing multiple charges including two counts of homicide by vehicle while under the influence and two counts of homicide by vehicle.
The Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District shared the following statement on their social media pages:
“It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of one of our teachers, Sandra Marwick who was tragically involved in a car accident yesterday morning on her way to work.
This is an unimaginable loss for her family, the WSTU program, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her. She was a dedicated educator who made a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and colleagues.
Our thoughts and condolences are with her family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Please keep Sandra and her family in your thoughts and prayers.”
