PALMER TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Hundreds of people gathered in Palmer Township for Palmer Township Community Weekend, enjoying rides, food and live music as the annual celebration brought residents together.
For Dominic Ruggiero, the event has become a yearly tradition. He said he has attended Palmer Days for as long as he can remember.
“I’m here with my family and neighbors. We usually come every year to celebrate Palmer Days, and it’s always a fun time,” he said.
Ruggiero said the weekend gives families and friends an opportunity to reconnect.
“This weekend’s always a nice time to get together with everyone, regroup, see what everyone’s up to. And it’s just nice to spend time together with people that are important to you,” he said.
Ruggiero’s family is not alone in making the festival an annual tradition. For the past 13 years, the Kfarsghab Club has served grilled chicken at the festival as a fundraiser for the organization and its community.
“Kfarsghab Club, which is a town in Lebanon where we all immigrated from, our parents immigrated from. So, we do this as a fundraiser so we can host cultural events and social events for our community,” said Fahim Elias.
Elias said the work that goes into preparing the food is worth it for the chance to spend the weekend with the community.
“This is great. I mean, prep takes some work, but this is like an all weekend long tailgate for us,” Elias said.
The weekend continues with more events, including fireworks Saturday. The final events are scheduled for Sunday.
