A Philadelphia man is facing felony charges after Hatfield Township Police alleged he broke into a home, smashed windows, and barricaded himself inside a bathroom.
Christopher Hansen-Freer, 38, was charged with felony counts of criminal trespass and criminal mischief following the Aug. 10 incident in the 2100 block of North Line Street.
Police were dispatched to the property at 6:07 p.m. after a witness reported seeing a man break into a neighbor’s vehicle and later sweep glass from the porch, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Officers arrived to find that all the windows of a black Nissan Rogue had been smashed. Broken glass was found on the ground and inside the vehicle, police said.
Investigators said they were familiar with the home through prior contacts with the defendant. The description provided by the witness matched Hansen-Freer, according to the complaint.
While officers were outside, they heard a window opening inside the home but received no response after knocking several times, police alleged.
Police listed five previous arrests involving alleged violations connected to Hansen-Freer, with the most recent occurring in January.
Another resident arrived while police were investigating and reported that the damage had not been present when she left the property at about 1:30 p.m., the complaint states.
In addition to the damaged vehicle, officers found a broken front window and shattered glass panels in an exterior kitchen door. Police said matching glass had been placed in a trash container near the porch.
Hansen-Freer allegedly yelled at officers through a bathroom window and refused to leave the house. Police entered the residence, but he continued refusing to come out of the bathroom, according to the affidavit.
Officers eventually forced open the bathroom door and took Hansen-Freer into custody without further incident. He was transported to Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
Police said Hansen-Freer also had an active Montgomery County warrant for an alleged parole violation involving drugs.
Hansen-Freer was jailed in Montgomery County on $25,077 cash bail, which includes a parole detainer. A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 8 before Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.
The charges are allegations. Hansen-Freer is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
