A Bethlehem man died in a Friday night crash in Allen Township.
Daniel Gutierrez, 20, was pronounced dead around 10 p.m. at the scene near the intersection of Weaversville Road and Drexel Drive, according to a state police news release.
Police said Gutierrez was driving northbound on Weaversville Road when he attempted to cross over to the southbound lane of travel to pass several vehicles on the two-lane road.
He was driving “at a high rate of speed” when he crested a slight hill, and, unable to see oncoming traffic, lost control of the vehicle, police said. The car crossed back over the northbound travel lane and off the roadway, hitting a utility pole and continuing through a cornfield, overturning multiple times.
State police are investigating, according to the news release.
Weaversville Road in the area of the crash was closed for about four hours after the crash.
State police, the Allen Township Fire Department, Northampton Regional EMS, Northampton Regional Fire Department and Northampton County Coroner’s Office all responded to the scene.
