One person was killed and two were injured in a crash on a Wayne County highway late Friday.
Keith R. Havenstrite Jr. of Lake Ariel was traveling east in the westbound lane of Route 590, Hamlin Highway, near the intersection of Goose Pond Road in Salem Twp. just before midnight on Friday when his 2010 Subaru Impreza collided head-on with a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee going west in the same lane, according to state police.
Authorities said Havenstrite, 36, was not wearing a sea belt and suffered fatal injuries. Wayne County Coroner Edward Howell pronounced him dead on the scene.
The driver of the Jeep, Kevin J. Martinell, 51, and his passenger, Janet R. Roberts, 79, both of Scranton, were transported by ambulance to Geisinger Community Medical Center. Both were wearing seat belts, state police said. Authorities described Martinell’s injuries as minor and Roberts’ as serious.
Hamlin Highway was closed for about two hours as authorities cleared the crash. State police were assisted by the Ledgedale Volunteer Fire Department, Lake Ariel Volunteer Fire Company, Hamlin Fire and Rescue Company, Hamlin Ambulance and Pennsylvania Ambulance.
