A 47-year-old Dunmore woman faces charges after kicking an officer and damaging property Sunday afternoon in Scranton, police said.
While officers were responding to 132 Franklin Ave. around 12:06 p.m. for a report of a disorderly female, county dispatchers informed police the woman — later identified as Kay Elizabeth Brier — fled from the home and was running toward the PNC Bank on Penn Avenue, according to a criminal complaint.
Outside the bank, officers found Brier sitting next to an overturned trash can with trash scattered on the ground, police said.
Brier immediately became defensive toward police, screaming and acting disorderly, officers said.
Police detected an odor of alcohol coming from Brier and observed a half-drunk bottle of wine next to her feet, according to the criminal complaint.
As officers attempted to arrest Brier for public drunkenness, she resisted by swaying and pulling her arms away before kicking backward twice, striking an officer in the shin and near his groin, police said.
An officer also observed multiple flower pots that were damaged and pushed over outside the residence on Franklin Avenue, according to the criminal complaint. A male on scene stated Brier damaged the flower pots and destroyed his apartment, police said.
Police charged Brier, 1704 Marion St., with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, and public drunkenness.
As of Monday, Brier remained in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26 at 10:30 a.m.
