The holidays are just around the corner, and rising prices are making people turn to secondhand shops to stretch their dollars.
69 News Reporter Sydney Kay has more with how local families in Allentown are finding relief at a massive pop-up consignment event kicking off Thursday.
The Just between Friends consignment event is being held at the Lou Ramos Center in Allentown. The items cover five soccer fields’ worth of space.
Co-owner and event coordinator Kendra Salem says Just between Friends is a semi-annual pop-up children’s consignment sale event. Hundreds of local families buy and sell gently-used children’s items.
The consignors are able to set their own prices. They create the price tags on the organization’s website and come to the center and drop the items off.
Salem says all the money made at the event goes to local families. More than 700 families are registered to sell items.
The average consignor makes over $400, Salem says. That can help them stretch their budget, so they can use it for their holiday shopping or to pay their bills.
Salem says this is the 10th year for the event.
