Pittsburgh man sentenced for depositing, altering US Treasury check worth $60K
PITTSBURGH —
A Pittsburgh man was sentenced in federal court Tuesday after officials said he deposited and altered a U.S. Treasury check.

According to a release from U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti, 21-year-old Andre Pitts deposited and altered a U.S. Treasury check for $62,211.
The check had been issued in February 2023 to another individual related to that person’s income return, the release said, with the memo line of the check identifying both individuals and the tax year 2021.
Officials said the payee information and memo line of the deposited check had been altered to identify Pitts, his residence, and tax year 2022.
Pitts then made several transactions after depositing the check.
The transactions included a $500 cash withdrawal and a $25,000 cashier’s check issued to himself.
Pitts has since been sentenced in federal court to two years of probation. He has also been ordered to pay more than $30,470,00 in restitution.
