Twin Valley will open the District 3 football playoffs with a big target on its back.

The unbeaten Raiders (10-0) dominated their opponents enroute to winning the Lancaster-Lebanon Section 4 title and have caught the attention of 4A teams around the state, and the media.

Twin Valley, the third seed in the 4A district tourney, will start the postseason as the top-ranked team in the state in 4A, according to Eric Epler of Pennlive.com who compiles the rankings.

It would be hard to argue against the Raiders’ top ranking. They have been fabulous in putting together a perfect season to date, using a punishing ground game, efficient passing attack and stingy defense through 10 games.

Twin Valley puts it perfect record on the line at 7 p.m. Friday when it hosts sixth-seeded West Perry (8-2). A win over West Perry would send the Raiders to the semifinals to face the winner of West York-Middletown.

The Raiders have outscored their opponents 540-80 with their closest game being a 28-6 win over Wyomissing, which is ranked sixth in the state in 4A.

Twin Valley has racked up an eye-popping 4,034 total yards of offense, while allowing just 1,305.

The Raiders have rushed for 2,844 yards with Drew Engle the leading rusher with 1,105 on 116 attempts for a 9.53 yards per carry average. Lucas Myers is averaging a stunning 11.65 yards per carry, gaining 839 on 72 carries.

The passing game is led by quarterback Maverick Foster, who has completed 67of 91 attempts for 1,057 yards with 14 touchdowns and no interceptions. Their leading receiver is Ben Grundy with 16 catches for 389 yards with 6 touchdowns.

Wyomissing, the fourth seed in the district, also begins district play this weekend after a bye week, hosting fifth-seeded Lampeter-Strasburg at 1 p.m. Saturday. The winner of that game plays the winner of Susquehanna Township (10-0) against Elco (6-5).

The Spartans’ only loss this season was to Twin Valley and their opening game in the playoffs will be rematch of the regular-season finale in which Wyomissing defeated Lampeter-Strasburg 46-7.

The Spartans also feature a punishing ground attack led by the backfield duo of Justice Hardy and Chase Eisenhower.

As a team, the Spartans have gained 3,346 yards on the ground, with Hardy getting 793 on 68 carries, and Eisenhower 622 yards on 76 carries.

But it’s not just those two that punish the opponents as Danny Fleischood (351 yards), Dom Arguelles (293), Marcus Armstead (245), Zander Westwood (212) and Tyler Niedrowski (209) have played roles in the running game.

Quarterback Brady Eisenhower has been efficient, completing 29 of 44 passes for 420 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The other Berks team ranked in the top 10 is Berks Catholic at No. 8 in Class 3A.

The Saints (8-2) won the LL Section 5 championship with a 7-0 record and host Bermudian Springs at 7 p.m. Friday in a 3A semifinal. The other semifinal pits Annville-Cleona against Trinity.

Berks Catholic is another run-first team, gaining 3,420 yards on the ground this season. The Saints’ leading rushers are Xavier Gerald (748 yards, 73 carries), Jeremiah Camara (680, 78) and Aidan Curley (560, 68).

Two Berks teams, Wilson (6A) and Exeter (5A), were listed in the teams to watch category and both will play Friday night.

After earning a bye, fourth-seeded Wilson (8-2) hosts fifth-seeded William Penn (6-3) in a quarterfinal game at 7 p.m.

In 5A, seventh-seeded Exeter (9-2) travels to second-seeded Conestoga Valley (10-0) for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal. The Eagles advanced last weekend with a 35-0 first-round win over Lower Dauphin as Leo Brown rushed for 269 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns. Exeter also got back starting quarterback Riley Martinez who missed most of the regular season with an injury.
