WINDSOR TWP., Pa. – A tractor-trailer ran off the roadway of I-78 and came to rest in an embankment amid heavy rain on Monday night.
State police say the incident happened around 5:40 p.m. when the tractor-trailer was headed westbound on I-78.
Police say the driver was moving at a high rate of speed when they lost control of the truck on the wet roadway, hit a guardrail, and rolled over.
According to state police, the driver was taken to Reading Hospital for evaluation. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.
The guardrail was damaged, and fire crews had to clean up fuel that leaked from the truck into a nearby creek, authorities say.
The right lane was closed for 45 minutes from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. but has since reopened.
Video from the scene shows the tractor-trailer in pieces. The vehicle was towed following the crash.
Police say the driver was wearing a seatbelt, and there was no cargo on the tractor-trailer.
According to state police, the driver is to be charged for driving at an unsafe speed.
