ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Police in Allentown are investigating a shooting that left a man seriously injured.
It happened just after 5:30 p.m. Thursday when police were dispatched to the area of 7th and Chew streets for a reported shooting.
“What I know so far is that someone was shot, a male, and I know the streets were blocked off and I couldn’t get through,” said Sonia Davis with Promise Neighborhoods of the Lehigh Valley.
“There was a gentleman on a scooter, but I know that further down on 7th and Turner they heard a loud bang. Overall, we know that someone was shot,” Davis added.
Authorities say arriving officers located a man suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene. First aid was administered, and the man was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Michael Richardson, also with Promise Neighborhoods of the Lehigh Valley, responded with Davis to see how they could help.
“We show up, we talk to the community members, we let them know that they’re not alone. We also let them know what services we have available,” Richardson stated.
“I like to say our presence is a big hug to the community because a lot of people don’t understand what gun violence does and a lot of us are a product of it,” he explained.
Police say the investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.
“It happens to be one of our closest community members, a family member of his, so we’re waiting to see what happens,” Davis told us.
