READING, Pa. – With summer winding down, the Reading Mayor’s office and State Rep. Manny Guzman teamed up to help families get ready for the start of the school year.
A back-to-school giveaway event took place in Downtown Reading on Wednesday at the 6th and Penn St. Courtyard from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Several vendors gave out free school supplies, food, haircuts, and eye exams to Berks County kids going back to school next week.
The line to get into the event spanned down the street, showing the demand for events like these, which parents say help ease the burden of purchasing school supplies for the upcoming school year.
Although kids may not be excited for the year to start, parents are excited to have an opportunity to receive free supplies amid the current economic conditions.
