READING, Pa. – Water’s spraying, kids are running, and dozens of families are cooling off in Oakbrook during Reading’s final Wacky Water Wednesday of the summer.
“We’re having a great time; all my kids are having a great time. It’s nice. It’s a nice event. They’re having popcorn and bracelets for the kids for back to school,” said Reading mom Janelle Ash.
Ash brought a big crew to the event today. The woman is a mom of ten, with nine of them heading back to school.
“The kids can bounce around from thing to thing, so they get to experience different things,” Ash said.
Wacky Water Wednesday is just one of several ways the city has given families a place to cool off, stay active, and spend time together this summer. That summer fun also continues at the Schlegel Park Pool.
“I decided to bring the kids because they’re almost going back to school, so they can have a good time for a while,” said Reading mom Jennifer Gonzalez.
Gonzalez says spaces like this matter, especially for families looking for something affordable and close to home.
“I think it’s helped a lot of people. Not just this, but the parks where there’s water. Because there are a lot of families that don’t have transportation to go to places like pools,” Gonzalez said.
With five-dollar admission at Schlegel Park Pool through Friday, families still have time for a few more summer memories.
