OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KOKH) — Oklahoma City fire crews battled a large house fire in northwest Oklahoma City on Wednesday evening.

Just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, firefighters responded to a house fire near NW 10th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue after a passerby called 911.

Battalion Chief Andrew McCann said crews could see smoke from the station.

When crews arrived on scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters immediately began a fire attack and requested additional engines and ladders due to the heat.

“Because of the heat today, they requested additional equipment, two additional engines and an additional ladder, which is absolutely appropriate because of how hot it is,” McCann said. “Our firefighters work really hard, but they do tend to wear out much quicker under these conditions, environmental conditions.”

Crews were able to put out the fire, but a home nearby did sustain minor damage from the flames.

McCann said the home is a total loss, but crews believe the home was vacant at the time of the fire.

At this time, no injuries have been reported.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
