ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Allentown City Council President Santo Napoli announced Wednesday night that council has scheduled a special meeting for the purpose of reviewing and acting on applicants to fill the city controller vacancy.
The position has been vacant since the May 26 death of longtime City Controller Jeff Glazier. The job listing on the city’s website shows the annual salary for the position at $76,000.
The special meeting will take place on Aug. 25 at 5:30 p.m.

In other business, council amended the 2026 capital fund budget by authorizing the transfer of $277,683 from the Trexler budget into project account funds for Roosevelt Park, Fountain Park and Works Progress Administration restoration projects.
The funds will be used for the installation of the spray park at Roosevelt, the bathroom and park design at Fountain, and the WPA project manual for ponds & wall.
Council also approved a resolution to authorize the submission of a formal application for funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development grant opportunity in the amount of $3 million.
The grant would be used to implement an older adult home modification program.
The program would allow funds to improve low to moderate income housing stock to allow vulnerable Allentown senior citizens and disabled residents to stay in their homes by retrofitting older housing with fall prevention, home modifications and adaptive equipment.
