The first snow of the 2025-2026 season is upon us.

The National Weather Service office in Cleveland forecasts a chance of rain and snow showers late Sunday, Nov. 9. The forecast calls for snow showers after 1 a.m. Nov. 10, likely continuing into Nov. 11.

“For the snowfall this weekend, it’s more of less into late Sunday or early Monday when the bulk of the snowfall starts,” said Raelene Campbell, meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “For Sunday night through Tuesday morning the lakeshore will see one to two inches. Then in southern Erie County or northern Crawford, that area will see up to four inches.”

Here is a look at what the rest of the week holds before the snow graces Erie.

Rain showers before snow hits

Before the snow arrives, Erie is looking at rain showers and strong winds.

On Nov. 5, NWS predicts rain between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. with winds reaching up to 31 miles per hour.

Those showers will continue during the night before 2 a.m. followed by a slight chance of showers after 5 a.m. on Nov. 6. The wind will reach up to 30 miles per hour with gusts reaching up to 47 miles per hour. Temperatures are predicted to reach a low of around 40 degrees.

On Nov. 6, there will still be a chance of showers between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. while winds range from 7 to 16 miles per hour. Temperatures are expected to reach nearly 48 degrees.

The night of Nov. 6 will be mostly cloudy with a low temperature around 37 degrees.

On Nov. 7, showers will start up after 1 p.m. with winds reaching 15-17 miles per hour. The high temperature will reach nearly 56 degrees.

On the night of Nov. 7, showers will continue and the temperatures will drop to around 43 degrees.

Those showers are predicted to continue throughout the night and throughout Nov. 8. The temperatures on Nov. 8 will reach a high of 50 degrees.

Going in to Nov. 9, the rain showers will continue while temperatures reach a high near 48 degrees.

On the night of Nov. 9, this is when the Erie area will see the mix of snow and rain showers before 1 a.m. Those mixed showers will then turn into just snow showers after 1 a.m. The low temperature is predicted to reach 29 degrees.

On Nov. 10, Erie is predicted to see continued snow showers with the high temperatures reaching about 39 degrees. The snow showers will continue into the night with a low temperature around 29 degrees.

On Veterans Day, Erie is predicted to see more of a mix of rain and snow showers. The high temperature will reach near 40 degrees.

Will the new snow stick or melt?

The National Weather Service says that the first snowfall, unlike last year, will go as quickly as it comes.

“It will stick for a short time being since next week is predicted to be chilly,” Campbell said.

Unlike the snowfall last November which came in like a lion, this snowfall is predicted to stick around for a short time and then melt.

“We start warming into the upper 40s, low 50s on Nov. 12. So what falls is likely to melt shortly after but it might stick around for a day or two,” Campbell said. “Given how warm the ground is a lot of that snow will compact and be shallower than the four inches.”
