The Pittston Tomato Festival kicks off Thursday at 5 p.m.
PITTSTON, Pa. — The rain may be falling in Luzerne County, but vendors spent the day getting ready for the Pittston Tomato Festival.
“I’m hoping that it stops for the crowds for tonight,” said Denise Thomas.
The 43rd annual festival kicks off Thursday afternoon, and vendors tell Newswatch 16 they’re excited to greet people.

“It was just a family tradition that we had over the years, and coming here to see family, friends, and other vendors, we could never give it up,” said John Argenteo.
Some vendors say the festival is a family tradition, and they are ready to serve rain or shine.
“My brother and my father started it, and my parents have passed away since, but my brother kept it going, and we’re still here! We have a good time; we do have a good time, although it’s hard work,” said Thomas.
Plus, they were ready to warm people up with a hot meal on a rainy day.
