A Moosic man who witnesses say repeatedly punched his wife during an argument Sunday evening resisted arrest, according to a criminal complaint.
Gregory Cooper, 40, is charged with assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and harassment.
Old Forge police responded to Moosic Road and Main Street at about 11 p.m. for the report of a man on top of a woman, beating her.
Officers found Cooper, of 544 Orchard St., standing on the sidewalk as a vehicle sped away. He told officers he was leaving and had just been arguing with his wife. He resisted police attempts to take him into custody.
As officers attempted to put him in handcuffs, Cooper pushed himself off the police vehicle. Ultimately, several officers restrained him and took him into custody. When they attempted to put Cooper into the police vehicle, he continued to resist and kicked the vehicle’s door once inside.
Charon Taylor told officers Cooper was driving her to work and got upset because she wouldn’t hand him her phone.
When Taylor got out of the vehicle, Cooper pushed her against a wall and punched her in the head.
Officers noted Taylor’s face was swollen and she suffered a cut on her left elbow.
Two witnesses told officers they saw Cooper punching Taylor.
Cooper remains in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Aug. 26 before District Judge Laura Turlip.
