ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Hundreds of families gathered in Allentown on Thursday as The Salvation Army handed out backpacks and school supplies to children preparing to return to school.
The event also featured a $250,000 state investment for The Salvation Army’s Allentown facilities.
State Sen. Nick Miller announced the funding, which will help pay for renovations at the organization’s community center and year-round shelter.
“It’s year-round shelter, one of the only ones in Allentown. It’s just really important to support that shelter as the need is just crucial.” Miller said.
Capt. Maria Corraliza of the Allentown Salvation Army said the funding will help pay for a new roof, HVAC upgrades and other improvements while supporting the organization’s services to the community.
“We are just thankful for the event, and we are thankful for the partners. We are thankful for the volunteers. We are thankful for everyone that’s been part of this. We are so thankful to the Lord for the opportunity that he has given us to be able to help the Allentown community.”
Corraliza said the funding will help The Salvation Army continue its mission of serving people in need.
